Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It most commonly develops in the pelvis, including around the ovaries and Fallopian tubes. This tissue can cause inflammation, pain, scarring, and sometimes fertility problems. About 1 in 10 females worldwide are affected by endometriosis.
Common Symptoms
Pelvic pain is the most common symptom, and symptoms can become worse around a period. Some people, however, have no noticeable symptoms at all.
Diagnosis
It is not known the cause of Endometriosis and many women report having their symptoms dismissed or minimized before receiving answers. A healthcare provider may ask about your symptoms and family history, perform an exam, and use imaging such as an ultrasound or MRI. Imaging can help identify signs of endometriosis, but it may not detect every case
